News: Man hit by Magic Mountain roller coaster

Posted at 1:05 AM EDT (0505 GMT)

Aug. 31st, 2008 -- A 20-year-old man was struck by the Ninja roller coaster at the Santa Clarita, California park after entering an area restricted to only authorized personnel.

Officials at the Six Flags Magic Mountain park have provided confirmation that a man was involved in an accident at the California park.

Reports say that the accident happened just after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. According to park officials, the accident occured when the 20-year-old man entered a restricted area after climbing over at least one fence then entering a "visibly restricted area." Soon after entering this restricted space, he was struck by the Ninja roller coaster.

In a released statement, Six Flags noted that "Ninja is surrounded by 6-foot and 7-foot fences that are clearly marked by signs stating the area is restricted to authorized personnel only.”

Park officials have told media that, according to a statement by the man's brother-in-law, he was attempting to retrieve his hat that had fallen off during the course of the ride. He was found by park medical staff within two minutes unconscious but breathing. Soon, he was transported to a local area hospital. At this time, his medical condition is not known.

Stay tuned for further updates as they come available.

Seriously!? Please, for your own sake, do not go into restricted areas.

If you see people trying to climb a fence, or get into restricted areas, either stop them or alert park staff. You might (or will) keep them from harm and save their lives!

OMG, here we go again. What is seriously wrong with people. I just do not understand why anyone would go under a coaster.

Another one? What is going on? They need to ban the mentally ill from entering the park.

So like I love my NY Giants, but I don't care HOW much the hat costs, I am not going after it if I lose it on a roller coaster. Common sense just isn't that common anymore...

Of all parks! That's what happened at the end of the movie Roller Coaster... in that park! Except it was Revolution and not Ninja.

People are dumb.

What is it with all these accidents recently? And people climbing fences? I swear, this world is getting stupider, and stupider by the second.

I feel embarrased that I'm also 20.

At least there are only a Few SF Parks that have coasters called Ninja and one of the parks Ironically is Six Flags Over Georgia.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, if I lost my flat billed FiftyFifty hat, complete with sticker still on the bill of the hat on a coaster, I would be climbing fences and rolling the dice of life to get it. I must be in style 24/7.

Sarcasm included.

So Hershey could take my electrified fence idea a little further by adding marshmallow bins on the edge of the fence and filling the creek with enough chocolate to make it a chocolate river. When the hat retrieving patron gets shocked they'll turn into a Smore after they fall into the creek.

That's just too bad about the chocolate/cocoa commodity prices that went up the last few years.

That's a decent idea Chiller. I prefer Alton Tower's decision to not fence off Nemesis. That "Fake" blood in the ravines, not so fake.

Dollywood has introduced a zero tolerance policy- NO hats on rides, period.

I'm surprised Six Flags hasn't...

I was wondering why I wore my fitted hat to the Festival today. Probably because rides is only a portion of it, not the main attraction. I should have left it in the car. I hate wearing fitted hats to parks because I can't put it on my carrabeaner, securing it. That's why I wear a velcro adjustable if I take one. The kid probably lost his tennis ball green Yankees New Era hat.
