News: Ghost Town shoots for September opening of Cliff Hanger

Posted at 9:51 AM EDT (1351 GMT)

Aug. 26th, 2008 -- Ghost Town in the Sky, the beautiful Maggie Valley, NC park, located on top of a mountain is hoping for a September opening of their star attraction – Cliff Hanger.

The O.D. Hopkins Associates, Inc-designed coaster is one of the most unique in the world because it actually drops off the side of a mountain into a ravine.

ThrillNetwork editor Wes Connell spoke with David King from the park and King stated at the earliest there might be a Labor Day opening, but more than likely it will be the middle of September before the coaster passes state inspection.

The park expects the inspectors this week and King will know more at that point about a firm opening date.

King also stated that one official was measuring the g-forces on the coaster and stated that the loop was pulling 2 g and at one point 6 g laterally in one of the turns after the loop.

The coaster is running at a maximum speed of 60 mph, which makes it 4 mph faster than it ran with the previous trains.

Stay tuned to ThrillNetwork for further updates on the status of Cliff Hanger.

Well They might have to find a way to slow the train down if it is pulling 6gs around one of the turns, thats a lot. Awesome that it might open soon though.

It probably won't be safe when they open it anyway.
